Following the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis and clashes between police and protestors in Sacramento, many people are asking the city to transform its police force. In this series, CapRadio’s Sarah Mizes-Tan examines three areas of potential reform: militarization and violence, police funding and alternatives.
Our first story focuses on why many people believe our police force has become more militarized over the past 30 years, and how that has led to greater conflict between police and the communities they serve. We’ll also be looking at different funding sources for police and potential alternatives to policing. Finally, as many work to translate demonstrations into action, we’ll ask what reforms are realistic and how they can be achieved.
