UPDATE: 6:12 p.m. - The blaze is holding at 2,303 acres and is now 50 percent contained. Evacuation warnings have been downgraded to advisories and residents are returning home.

UPDATE: 7:10 p.m. - Air advisory in place through Friday. The Lowell Fire burning in Nevada and Placer counties near the town of Alta has grown to 2,302 acres with containment at 40 percent.

Lowell Fire: Containment Grows; Shifting Winds Trigger Health Alerts

July 27, 2015

UPDATE: 7:40 p.m. -- Cal Fire says containment has grown to 25 percent, with burned acreage holding at 1,700. Shifting winds are causing smoky skies in the Truckee area, and officials recommend that outdoor activities be limited.

Lowell Fire: Containment Grows, Four Firefighters Injured

July 26, 2015

UPDATED: 7:40 p.m. - The Lowell Fire burning in Nevada County is holding steady at 1,500 acres and is 15 percent contained. Four firefighters sustained burn injuries while battling the blaze, according to Cal Fire.

UPDATE: 8:48 p.m. - The Lowell Fire has quickly grown to 4,000 acres. Mandatory evacuations are in place for some communities. A smoke health advisory for Nevada County.
