The projected coronavirus death toll is rising as governors continue to lift measures towards reopening their respective states.

According to the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington, more than 137,000 Americans will die from the virus by early August. Despite increasing estimates, more states and cities are reopening their economies and loosening stay-at-home orders.

That includes the city of Stockton in San Joaquin County, where protesters called for businesses to reopen over the weekend.

We get an update today on California’s response to COVID-19 and check-in with Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs.

Guests

  • POLITICO California Playbook Senior Writer Carla Marinucci
