Cover of Marilyn Reynolds' book "Eddie's Choice".

Marilyn Reynolds has been a self-professed book lover from a young age. Professionally, she spent many years teaching in a pretty tough high school.

Reynolds says she had trouble finding books that resonated with her students. So she decided to try writing one. That first novel, Telling, was about a pretty tough subject, a young girl being sexually abused by a neighbor. But, Reynolds says, her students could relate to it.

She has written 10 more books like this: teen novels about things that really happen. It’s called the “True-to-Life Series from Hamilton High.“

Reynolds joins Insight to talk about her most recent book, "Eddie’s Choice." Its main character, Eddie Barajas, takes on racism at Hamilton High. Then he’s targeted by a group of white supremacists.

The book release will be Nov. 3 at the Imaginarium in Sacramento.
