Dr. Tecoy Porter leads prayer at Genesis Church in Sacramento.

Andrew Nixon / Capital Public Radio

These days, Sacramento’s Meadowview neighborhood is known mostly as the place where police shot and killed Stephon Clark. The problems facing this working class neighborhood reflect years of neglect, poor city planning and ongoing demographic change.

Residents are responding by connecting with each other, innovating solutions, and throwing out the rule book on how a neighborhood can make a comeback. This year, CapRadio will tell the story of Meadowview, taking a deep dive into the history and daily life in this South Sacramento neighborhood.

The View From Here: Making Meadowview features community engagement events, collaboration with residents and local leaders like Larry Lee, Editor of The Sacramento Observer, and Pastor Tecoy Porter of Genesis Church. They join Insight to discuss Meadowview’s history, its role in the Sacramento region and some of the initiatives taking shape in the community.
