Cody Drabble / Capital Public Radio

World Refugee Day, which calls attention to people who have been forced to leave their home countries, will be observed on Wednesday, June 20. There are currently more than 65 million refugees globally, according to the United Nations.
Sacramento has the largest refugee resettlement population in the United States. Local photojournalist Micah Albert has partnered with the Sacramento Republic FC  to host a free soccer tournament and carnival on June 20. They hope to bring together refugees, immigrants and other community members and raise awareness of the international crisis with the event.
Correction: A previous photo caption on this story misidentified Sacramento Republic FC President and Chief Operating Officer Ben Grumpert. It has been corrected.
