In a debate, there are position statements on the issues, moments of calling out and taking on an opponent. The speaker has to explain and defend a viewpoint or an action, and there are factors like body language, voice tone, style and personality that can make a difference in how an argument is received by the audience.

Kristen Tudor is the director of debate at Sacramento State and a lecturer in the Communication Studies Department. She joins Insight host Beth Ruyak in studio to talk about her reaction to Tuesday’s debate among the six leading candidates for California governor.
