On this week's Sound Advice Capital Public Radio Theatre Critic Jeff Hudson's shares his picks for local classical music concerts:
Christopher O'Riley - "Conga-Line in Hell" by Miguel del Aguila
Composer Miguel del Águila was born in Uruguay, he came to California in the late 1970s, fleeing Uruguay’s military government. He graduated from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and then continued his studies in Vienna, he is now a prolific composer who has been nominated for several Latin Grammys.
Camelia Symphony - "Exultate, Jubilate" by Mozart

The lineup includes: conductor Michael Morgan with the Davis Chorale and The Cathedral Choir, as well as singing by soprano Carrie Hennessey, mezzo Betany Coffland, tenor Jack Wilkins, and baritone Zachary Gordin. Meanwhile, the Camelia Symphony's maestro Christian Baldini is in London, conducting several performances of Verdi’s “Aida” with the English National Opera.
UC Davis Dept. of Music - Selections from "Morgiane" by Edmond Dede

Edmond Dèdè was born as a free man in New Orleans in 1827. He moved to Paris in 1855, and he enjoyed a forty-year career in France as a conductor, composer, and violinist. He died in 1901, and his music has been largely forgotten in this country. But a few years ago, scholars discovered the score of a never-performed opera – Cap Public Radio’s Kevin Doherty, baritone; along with Liisa Davíla, soprano; Jeremiah Trujillo, piano, will be doing selections in a free concert.
Chanticleer - "Suo Gan" a Welsh song

This is the final year in Chanticleer for veteran bass Eric Alatorre, currently in his 28th season with the group. He’s the guy with the trademark handlebar mustache, which he waxes so that it extends out to an amazing length. I remember seeing him join the group as a Latino kid from Orange County in 1990. His deep voice has been the foundation of Chanticleer’s sound for decades, and he will be greatly missed.
