Of note in the Concerto #3: in the first movement is heard the quote of a theme from his short opera, written for the Archbishop's court, Il rè pastore (The Shepherd King); perhaps recalling for the Court a popular aria from the opera heard only months before. In the second movement Adagio, a softening of the accompanying orchestra with mutes on violins and violas, cellos and basses plucking their strings, and flutes replacing oboes for this movement only. And in the final movement, the appearance of a couple folk-song themes with the second being confirmed not until the 1950s as being a Hungarian folk dance. Mozart's Violin Concerto #3 is your Midday Masterpiece today at 2:00pm.
