Wide Open Walls Sues Former Web Developer

The organization that runs Sacramento's annual mural festival is in a feud over its website. The Sacramento Business Journal's Sonya Sorich says the group Wide Open Walls filed a lawsuit this week accusing its former web developer of trademark infringement, breach of contract and something known as cybersquatting.

"The complaint from Wide Open Walls alleges that, after learning that Wide Open Walls was seeking another company for its website developer, the former web developer shut off the website domains and asked for more money," says Sorich.

The public still can't access those website domains, which display the error message "offline for maintenance" and "will be back soon." The former website developer couldn't be reached for comment this week. Meanwhile, this year's Wide Open Walls festival is still expected to take place in August.

New Housing For Old Town Roseville

Old Town Roseville is getting more housing. Sorich says an investor from Roseville-based Golden State Homes recently bought a two-story building at Pacific and Lincoln streets, believed to be one of the city's oldest buildings.

"The building includes 14 apartments above retail, but it hasn't offered housing in years because the apartments need a lot of work,” says Sorich. “The new investor is going to put that work into the apartments and ultimately offer housing at the site."

The investor says future residents might be young professionals, especially since the building is within walking distance of restaurants and nightlife. It's not the only residential project in the works in Old Town Roseville. Two separate developments with an affordable housing component are under construction or will start this year, bringing more than 140 residential units.

CycleBar Joins Midtown Mixed Use Project

A mixed-use development under construction in Midtown Sacramento has added another retail tenant. Sorich says CycleBar announced this week it will be joining the retail and apartment complex at 15th and Q streets.

"This will be the second local site for CycleBar, an indoor cycling chain based in Irvine,” says Sorich. “The upcoming Sacramento site will have the same local owners as a CycleBar location in Roseville. It could open around the end of the year."

It will join three food businesses and a float spa in the retail portion of the project. Only one retail space remains. The 8 ½ story building will also include 75 apartments.
