We Grow California Building Huge Cannabis Production Campus

Work crews are expected to start construction in a few weeks on a massive cannabis production campus in Sacramento. It'll be located on Elder Creek Road, between Power Inn and Florin Perkins roads.

The Sacramento Business Journal's Scott Rodd says the company expects to employ about 300 people when it's fully operational in about 10 months.

"Many of these jobs are expected to be skilled positions like engineers, botanists, horticulturists and chemists," Rodd said. "The campus would also employ agricultural workers, administrators and security personnel as well."

The company behind the project — We Grow California — recently got a conditional use permit from the city.

The $50 million campus will be much larger than any other cannabis operation in Sacramento to date, measuring more than 250,000 square feet. The main investors are a Los Angeles real estate developer and former solar industry executive.

Lincoln To Annex 200 Acres

The City of Lincoln is looking into annexing about 200 acres. Rodd says the land, which is mostly agricultural, could support a sizable mixed-use development.

"One city official estimated that the property could support up to 475 residential units and one million square feet of commercial office space and retail," he said.

It's unclear who is pushing for the project. The property appears to be owned primarily by two large commercial developers in Silicon Valley.

Lincoln's community development director says the city expects to finish the entitlements by the end of the year and move onto the actual annexation next year. Boundaries for the specific plan are Nicolaus Road on the north, Nelson Lane on the west, Highway 65 to the south and the future Independence project to the east.

Flako's Takos Opening Cameron Park Location

A Sacramento area taco spot is expanding into El Dorado County. Flako's Takos — which first opened in Elk Grove about two years ago — is adding a location in Cameron Park. Rodd says it'll be the third standalone location for the taqueria.

"They also serve food at Goldfield Trading Post, a bar and music venue in midtown Sacramento," Rodd said. "The taqueria chain is hoping to see additional expansion through licensing, so there may more Flako’s Takos popping around the region in the near future."

The Cameron Park site could open as soon as early November and will employ about 10 people.
