Nugget Markets

The corporate headquarters of Nugget Markets will be among the businesses located in a business park approved by Davis City Council members that will also feature two other commercial buildings.

Nugget Markets Moving To Davis

The Davis City Council this week OK'd a new business park that's expected to include Nugget Markets' corporate headquarters. The Sacramento Business Journal's Digital Editor Sonya Sorich says right now Nugget is headquartered in Woodland, where it uses separate buildings that are across the street from each other.

"This Davis location will put all of the company's workers under one roof," says Sorich. "The company's CEO lives and Davis and will now be able to bike to work."

The business park will fill six acres of vacant land at Mace Boulevard and Alhambra Drive. It's expected to include three buildings: one will be used for Nugget's headquarters, and the other two are expected to be for research and development firms.

More Business Interested In Oak Park

It's been less than a week since Sacramento's Oak Park Brewery shut down, and there are already quite a few businesses wanting to fill the empty spot on Broadway and 35th Street. Sorich says, according to the building's owner, the site likely won't be empty for long.

"He said he's already received more than a dozen inquiries about the building, which includes a large outdoor patio," says Sorich. "Apparently, the former brewery invested about $650,000 in the building before opening four years ago."

Some of the interested businesses include other breweries, restaurants and a wine-bar operator. A new business could open there within a couple of months. Oak Park Brewery still hasn't said specifically why it went out of business, but in May, Sacramento County temporarily suspended the brewery's health permit because of vermin found on the premises.

Macy's Will Open 'Backstage' Discount Store Downtown

Macy’s says it's remodeling its store at Downtown Commons in Sacramento to make room for a new discount section called Macy's Backstage. The store-within-a-store is in several other Macy's locations, but this will be the first one to enter the Sacramento area. Sorich says it's expected to create new jobs...

"...but we don't know exactly how many," says Sorich. "It's worth noting that Backstage locations are separately operated businesses, and the stores have their own buying teams separate from traditional Macy's locations."

Shoppers can expect discounts on things like clothes, home decor and cosmetics. The Backstage store will fill more than 10,000 square feet on Macy's third level. It's expected to open on Sept. 15.
