Caltrans wants your feedback on a plan to ease the notorious traffic bottleneck on a section of the Capital City Freeway in Sacramento.
The bottleneck stretches from K Street to north of Arden Way.
"This is probably one of the worst congested areas for the whole Sacramento region," says Dennis Keaton is with Caltrans. Today, the agency launched a new website with details about the plan and a section for people to add their comments.
Keaton says $141 million SHOPPE funding will pay for repairs, and the remaining amount, when added to overall costs, will be $575 million.
The project calls for widening the freeway and the American River Bridge to accommodate a bus/carpool lane and an auxiliary lane.
"We also want to include a new Class 1 bike path which is going to allow folks to commute to work with other means," says Keaton.
He says construction isn't scheduled to begin until 2023. But the agency wanted to get the word out now so that the public had plenty of time to submit input. Keaton says Caltrans also plans to hold several public meetings about the project in the future.
