Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg says the City and UC Davis should have a much stronger relationship.

Steinberg and a small group of business and civic leaders met with incoming UC Davis Chancellor Gary May on the Georgia Tech campus where May currently works.

Steinberg says the chancellor helped with an initiative called "Tech Square" that spawned hundreds of tech businesses in the Atlanta area.

"If we develop the kind of partnership that we witnessed between the City of Atlanta and Georgia Tech, it will be an incredible benefit to both the university and to the city and region of Sacramento," Steinberg says.

Last weekend, Steinberg was also a presenter at the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Miami. He told attendees about Sacramento's $64-million grant for its "Whole Person Program" to combat homelessness. He also told mayors about the City's partnership with Verizon to bring 5G phone service to Sacramento.
