Family And Friends Protest After Three Year Old Dies During Dental Procedure

Parents and friends protested today outside a dental office in Stockton where a three-year-old girl died after a dental procedure earlier this week.

Araceli Avila held a picture of her daughter Daleyza and friends and family carried signs reading, “I want justice” outside the Children’s Dental Surgery Center.

The girl was under anesthesia but a nurse told her parents her heart had stopped and she was taken to the hospital. She later died.

Family friend Yolanda Dawson says the parents believe the girl was overmedicated.

“They overmedicated her, that’s what they did because even St. Joseph’s stated at the doctors that she was overmedicated,” Dawson said.

The dental office was closed today reportedly because of death threats and no one was available for comment.

The Stockton Police Department is investigating the case.
