Dead Bird In Sacramento Tests Positive For West Nile Virus

A dead bird found in Sacramento's Rosemont area has tested positive for West Nile virus. That word's Wednesday from the Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District. Luz Maria Robles is with the district.

"It's a significant finding because it provides an early warning sign for West Nile virus activity," says Robles. "It basically confirms that the virus is present. And typically after finding that first...or this dead bird...then we set out mosquito traps to collect those mosquitoes and then also test them for West Nile virus."

She says the dead bird was an American crow. Throughout the state, nine other counties have also reported West Nile virus activity so far this year...including one human case.
