Sacramento Sheriff's Department Investigate Body Found Near Highlands High School

Update 9:58 a.m., April 27: Deputies responded to a call a little after 6 a.m. Wednesday about two females being physically assaulted near Highlands High School running track. 

One 86-year-old female victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Another female, 61-years-old, was medically treated at the scene. 

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, the two victims commonly walk in that area for exercise. 

A motive for the attack in unknown. No weapon was found on the scene. It appears the victims were physically assaulted by the attacker using hands and feet, says the Sheriff's Department. The male fled on foot toward Walerga Road after the assault.

The attacker is described as a black male in his 30s, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, short curly hair, clean shaven, wearing black sweat pants and a burgandy sweatshirt. 

Twin Rivers Unified School District says students are safe and classes are in session as the Sacramento Sheriff's Department investigates.


Update 9:43 a.m.: Detectives are investigating the murder of a woman in Sacramento's North Highlands area early Wednesday morning.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department says the woman was walking with a friend on the running track at Highlands High School when she was attacked. The woman who died was in her 80s.

The other woman is in her 60s. A motive for the attack is unknown. The attacker is described as a black man in his 30s about 5 feet 6 inches tall wearing black sweat pants and a burgundy sweatshirt.


Original Post: The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department is investigating a body found near Highlands High School at around 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Detectives have no current updates as of right now.
