Stockton Prepares For NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament

Stockton is rolling out the red carpet as it prepares for the NCAA Women’s Basketball Sweet 16 and the Elite 8 to be played in its Downtown Arena. It could be a 2 million dollar boost to the local economy.

The Stockton Arena has transformed its hockey ice rink into a hardwood basketball court.

Stockton stands ready to host one of its biggest sporting events ever. Local businesses are buying tickets and handing them out to customers, and the games are drawing fans from Fresno to Sacramento.

Stockton Visitors Bureau Chief Wes Rhea says local fans should be excited by one player who came from St. Mary’s High School.

"One thing we’re excited about is Kat Tudor, she is a freshman there and a St. Mary’s grad so we’re hoping Stockton comes out to cheer one of their own as she makes the Sweet 16," says Rhea.

The games will be played on Saturday and Monday with the winner going onto the Final Four.
