Update 11:01 a.m., Feb. 25: (AP) — Bail has been raised to $575,000 for a man authorities believe was the subject of police chase that resulted in an officer's death.

Alberto Morales Quiroz was arrested Thursday in connection with the death of California Highway Patrol Officer Lucas Chellew.

Investigators say Chellew was chasing Quiroz Wednesday when the officer crashed his motorcycle and was fatally injured.

The 26-year-old Quiroz could face a series of charges in connection with the chase. And the Sacramento Bee reports (http://bit.ly/2lH51hi) that bail was bumped up Friday from a separate warrant for burglary and other charges.

Quiroz is scheduled to be arraigned next week. It wasn't immediately known if he has an attorney.

Chellew leaves a wife and two young children. His father is a retired CHP captain, and his sister is also a CHP officer.

Original Post: California Highway Patrol Valley Division officers have arrested a suspect in the fatal Feb. 23 motorcycle crash of CHP officer Lucas Chellew.

Alberto Quiroz, 26, of Sacramento, was arrested at 11:45 a.m. Thursday for his alleged involvement in the high-speed chase that ultimately took Chellew's life.

Quiroz was booked into the Sacramento County Jail at 7 p.m. on the following charges: felony evasion, felony vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, and felony resisting arrest.

The CHP notes that although an arrest has been made, an investigation is still ongoing. Tips and media inquiries can be sent to the CHP Valley Division at (916) 731-6300.
