Five northern California cities will take part in the 2017 Amgen Tour of California bicycle races.

Sacramento was the final stop in this year's race and will host the first stage next year. Modesto will host stage two and San Jose will host stage three. There are seven stages in all.

The women's race will continue with the four-stage format. The first two stages will be held at Lake Tahoe. Elk Grove will host an Amgen event for the first time when it kicks off stage three.

The women's race will begin on May 11 and end in Sacramento on May 14 - the same day the men's race begins.

Amgen announced the location of the host cities for the men's and women's stages Wednesday.
