Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson says the protests over the shooting death of Joseph Mann and the release of police video will result in a more transparent city police department.
"We released the data and I think going forward, you're going to see a much better environment and a more transparent environment, and when we have data available, body cameras, we got to make sure those policies are in place, in-car cameras , we have got to make sure we don't hamper an investigation, but as quickly as possible, we've got to get the data out to the public," says Johnson.
Johnson spoke after the unveiling of a new public art piece at the downtown arena. Joseph Mann was shot to death July 11 of this year. Cell phone and surveillance videos contradicted the officers' version of what happened.
The department released its videos of the shooting last week. It was the first time the department had released video of an officer-involved shooting.
