A traffic accident involving a Stockton Police vehicle claimed the life an elderly woman just after eight Wednesday morning in North Stockton.

A Stockton Police patrol vehicle with two officers inside was responding to a call for assistance in a stolen car pursuit.

The officers were driving Code 3, that is with lights and sirens on, as they entered the intersection of Pershing Avenue and Rivara Road.

Suddenly a pickup truck pulled in front of them and was hit broadside by the police.

Stockton Police Officer Joe Silva says it turned into a fatal accident.

“Both of our officers were transported to an area hospital to be treated for minor injuries but the driver of the pickup truck unfortunately was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver was described as an elderly female,” says Silva.

Silva also says the accident occurred in an unincorporated area of Stockton and is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol
