A new Field Poll estimates that about 8 million people will vote in today’s California presidential primary election. The numbers account for 44.7 percent of registered voters and 32.5 percent of eligible voters.
The poll predicts that the voter turnout will be higher than the 2012 low of 31.1 percent of registered voters, but lower than 2008 - in which 57.7 percent of registered voters cast ballots.
The poll also predicts that 5 million of the 8 million expected to participate will cast their votes using a mail ballot. That would be a new record in California, where nearly 3.5 million voters cast mail ballot votes in 2012.
