California’s top oil and gas regulator will leave the troubled agency he inherited, 18 months after taking the job.
State Oil and Gas Supervisor Steve Bohlen notified Governor Jerry Brown of his resignation Monday.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and advocacy groups have criticized the state Division of Oil, Gas and Geothermal Resources for lax oversight of drilling. Bohlen says the agency has improved.
It most recently made news for compiling a personalized oil and gas report of the governor’s land.
Bohlen will leave his post at the end of the year to return to work at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, but also continue as an unpaid scientific advisor to the division.
