8:48 p.m. - Smoke from the Lowell Fire has resulted in an air quality health advisory for areas of western Nevada County.
YubaNet.com reports: "The Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District is issuing an air quality health advisory for people in Western Nevada County due to smoke from the Lowell Fire in Nevada County. Although smoke from this fire has not yet settled into the breathing zone in western Nevada County at the time this advisory is issued, there is an excellent chance that overnight downslope winds may bring heavy smoke concentrations to populated areas during nighttime hours and the morning hours on Sunday, July 26."
7:08 p.m. - The rapidly growing Lowell Fire in Placer and Nevada counties has burned 4,000 acres.
Mandatory evacuations are in place for Red Dog Rd at Green Horn Creek, Chalk Bluff Rd, You Bet Rd at Hanson Gravel Rd, and the northeast portion of Cascade Shores.
An evacuation center has been opened at the Nevada Union High School, located at 11671 Ridge Road in Grass Valley.
Officials say they are searching for a vehicle of interest that was in the area where the Lowell Fire started:
Investigators are asking the public’s help in looking for a vehicle of interest that was in the area when the fire started. The vehicle is a lifted 4x4 white jeep wrangler without a top, a black roll bar and no front doors that was in the Gold Run/Dutch Flat area around 2:30pm. Anyone with information should contact the Placer or Nevada County Sheriff’s Department.
4:15 p.m. - The fire has quickly grown to 450 acres according to Cal Fire.
3:45 p.m. - A rapidly growing fire off Lowell Hill Road and Chicago Park in Placer County has cut the power to Nevada City, and has the potential to become a major incident, according to Cal Fire. A hydroelectric plant, power lines and homes are threatened.
The fire was at 200 acres at 3:50 p.m. YubaNet.com reports the fire is burning near power lines and has cut the power to Nevada City.
