Sacramento International Airport has had twelve consecutive months of passenger growth for the first time since 2007.
And, in a typically slow travel time, the first three months of 2015 saw an increase of 5 percent over 2014, or 100,000 more travelers.
Laurie Slothower with the airport said expanded airline flights is one reason for the increase.
"The carriers that we already have were sending in larger airplanes and increasing seat capacity, so there were more seats for people to book tickets on,” said Slothower.
She also said continued improvement in the regional economy is bringing more people through the airport.
"We're very locked into the regional economy because you need disposable income to take a vacation and businesses have to feel confident in their forecasts to allow business travel,” said Slothower. “And we've seen improvements on both of those fronts."
She said Southwest Airlines, Aeromexico, Delta, JetBlue and American Airlines have added or will add new flights.
Slothower says the new routes are the most added at Sacramento International since 2007.
Sacramento International Airport “served 8.9 million passengers in 2014, a 3.3 percent increase compared to 2013."
The airport is also remodeling a food court in Terminal A to add new restaurants and also expects to start a new parking system in the summer.
