New rules for food trucks could be coming soon to the City of Sacramento.
Brad Wasson with the city's Finance Department says a proposal before the City Council's Law and Legislation Committee would make it easier for mobile vendors to do business.
"Probably the biggest change is we're removing the time restrictions on the public right of way. So as long as it would be legal for a food truck to park, they could vend. If it's a 30-minute parking zone they can only vend for 30 minutes. If it's two hours they could vend for two hours."
Food trucks would be allowed to park within 50 feet of an intersection.
The city is also proposing two types of permits for groups of trucks on private property. There would be one permit for one or two trucks in a location. Another permit, for three or more trucks. All would require access to a plumbed bathroom.
Neighbors of a potential pod site would be asked for feedback before a pod were approved.
If the Law and Legislation Committee approves the changes at Tuesday's meeting, the changes would be presented to City Council next month.
