(AP) - The widow of a Sacramento County sheriff's deputy who was killed in the line of duty in October has been invited to President Barack Obama's State of the Union address and hopes to use the occasion to encourage Obama to help repair the relationship between the nation's law enforcement officers and the communities they serve.
The Sacramento Bee reports that Susan Oliver will attend Monday's speech as a guest of Democratic Congressman Ami Bera. Oliver's husband, 47-year-old Danny Oliver, was shot in the forehead as he checked out a suspicious car in a motel parking lot.
Bera's office says the White House has been notified that Oliver will be in the audience during Obama's address.
Susan Oliver is planning to create a foundation in her husband's memory that will be devoted to improving the public's perception of law enforcement.
