City Pushes For More Online Services

Most of the City of Sacramento's official paperwork has been digitized and is now available online.

The City's Linda Tucker says -in many cases- there will be no need to wait in line to get copies of documents.

"The reports that are now online include the building permit activity, crime reports, budget information, land-use data. That's just the start of an online, open-data government."

The City is also now relying on employees in different departments to update the web pages, instead of relying on just a few employees to update all of the city's information.

Tucker says you'll be able to use the web to pay utility bills, business license fees, and residential permits.

"There's a whole array and opportunity here to make it so much easier to do business with the City of Sacramento."

The City plans to put out a request for proposals to consultants who could help the city update its website.

That request will likely be issued this month. The City would like to have the new site online within 18 months.
