This week a low-income clinic in Reno started construction on a new $13 million facility.
Non-profit Northern Nevada Hopes has been offering primary medical care in an old motel in downtown Reno. This week, construction workers began demolition to make way for a modern 3-story, 37,000 square foot medical office building. When it’s done, the clinic expects to double its staff to 60 and expand its client base by 1,700 patients a month. CEO Sharon Chamberlain says half the cost of the upgrade will be paid with state and federal funding.
“I think that the state has recognized that we need to really focus on growing our federally qualified community health centers in the state of Nevada. We had two until a couple of years ago, now we have four.”
Half of the expansion will be paid for with donations. The clinic also plans to offer a community center and pediatric care in the new building.
