Californians conserved 27 billion gallons of water in August compared to the same time last year. The State Water Resources Control Board says that’s an 11 and a half percent savings. The agency released new conservation numbers today.
This marks the third month in a row conservation levels have increased. And the Water Board’s Max Gomberg says everyone appears to be getting the conservation message.
“All of the regions of the state are doing well," he says. "We’ve seen conservation percentages from about 7 percent in the desert region, the Colorado River region, to over 22 percent in the Sacramento region.”
Governor Jerry Brown has set a state-wide conservation target of 20 percent.
Gomberg says in the coming months the Water Board will compile data on daily per capita water use. He says that will provide a more complete picture of how much water regions are using and conserving.
