Sacramento Valley rainfall is expected to taper off tonight with some lingering showers into Saturday. In the Northern Sierra Nevada, accumulating snow is expected on mountain roads through the day today and into tonight.
Forecasters with the National Weather Service say there’s a potential for travel disruption from snowfall over mountain roads above 5,000 feet. Snow showers may linger into Saturday night with additional light accumulations as the storm exits to the south and east.
Meanwhile, the heavy rain in Southern California is bringing worries of mudslides where recent wildfires left mountainsides exposed. A 10-mile stretch of the Pacific Coast Highway was closed overnight in Ventura County because of high likelihood of rock slides in an area made bare by last year’s Springs Fire in Camarillo.
