Sacramento Soccer Team Will Play At Cal Expo

  •  Bob Moffitt
Friday, February 28, 2014 | Sacramento, CA

Team President Warren Smith says he team will pay 20-percent of the $3 million construction cost. Cal-Expo's food service company, Ovations, will pay about 80-percent.

"Ovations has always been investing in that property and continues to invest in that property to help drive traffic, to help bring more people and to help create a better experience and this is just a different investment that they are making in conjunction with us," says Smith.

The Cal-Expo Board of Directors had to sign off on the agreement. All parties will receive a share of parking and concessions revenues.

The stadium will be a temporary structure that can be taken down if needed.

Smith says the field will be a regulation-size soccer pitch and could be ready for play by the third game on the team's schedule, May 17th.

The team will play at Sacramento City College until the stadium at Cal Expo is finished.
