Aaron Carruthers married his long-time partner Keith in San Francisco before the gay marriage ban was passed in California.
This morning, the gay couple watched the announcement of the Supreme Court rulings with their son.
“For him at 12 years old, it’s watching society catch up with where he and his peers already are,” says Carruthers.
Rebecca Pope moved to Davis from Maryland with Susan, her partner of 29-years. She says now the couple plans to marry in California so Pope can stay on her partner’s health insurance.
“We are hoping to be among the first couples to marry at San Francisco city hall when that happens. We’d like to do the historical thing," says Pope. "If it takes too long for things to get ironed out in California, we’ll have to go back to the east coast.”
But no same-sex marriages may happen in California until the ninth circuit court of appeals lifts its stay.
