Capital Public Radio Announces New Midday Classical Host Jennifer Reason

Sacramento, CA - May 14, 2019: Capital Public Radio is excited to welcome Jennifer Reason as the new midday classical announcer on CapRadio’s music station (88.9 Sacramento / 91.7 Groveland-Sonora / 88.7 Sutter). Reason will host weekdays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. She will also serve as CapRadio’s first-ever community liaison for music.

Jennifer Reason is an accomplished classical pianist who has appeared in solo and ensemble performances across Europe, the United States and Canada. She recently completed her 9th international festival tour, including twice appearing as a soloist to critical acclaim at the Interharmony International Music Festival in Germany, as well as the Schlern and Orfeo International Music Festivals in Italy. She has also appeared in ensemble settings at Carnegie Hall, the Vatican, the Liszt Academy in Hungary, and the international Festival of Peace and Brotherhood in Italy.

As a performer, Reason has shared the stage with classical heavyweights such as Hope Briggs (San Francisco Opera), Steven Mackey (Composer-in-Residence, Princeton) and composer John Rutter. She has also shown herself to be an adept music director, having made her international conducting debut in St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City in 2014.

“As a professional musician, Jennifer brings a unique perspective and valuable insights to her role as a radio host with her inside knowledge of the music and its makers,” says Paul Conley, Managing Editor of Music and Arts. “I’m excited to have Jennifer on the CapRadio team because I know her gregarious, upbeat manner will connect with all kinds of listeners, no matter how versed they are in classical music.”

Hailed as a pianist "in the league of Carnegie Hall" and a "rising star" whose playing is "lush, sensual and colorful: like a painting" (Sulzbach-Rosenberger, Germany), Reason is a vibrant young performer with strong ties to the region. The recipient of Sacramento Business Journal's Top 40 Under 40 Award for 2016, she is an alumna of Sacramento State University who serves as a key member in three local nonprofit music organizations: RSVP (Reconciliation Singers, Voices of Peace), Citywater and Rogue Music Project.

"I've been heavily involved in the performing arts in the region for over 15 years, which I absolutely love and will continue to do,” says Reason. “But this role at CapRadio offers a special opportunity to expand that involvement into a daily conversation about music, and that idea is so exciting for me."
