Sacramento, Calif. – Jul 8, 2016: Capital Public Radio News brought home two national awards from the PRNDI (Public Radio News Directors) conference in St. Louis this June. Senior editor for innovation, Catherine Stifter, former health care reporter Katie Orr Caldwell and the team from The View From Here won First Place in the Short Documentary category for “Undocumented Student Feels Like an American Girl.” This is from our year-long coverage of Undocumented Immigration in California.  And Bob Moffitt and Marnette Federis took home a Second Place Award in the Enterprise/Investigative reporting category for their multimedia series on the Use of Force by Sacramento area law enforcement.

Regional reporter Bob Moffitt and Sr. editor for digital, Marnette Federis worked together for nearly a year requesting records, mining data, reporting and producing, and their yearlong efforts highlighted our integrated, cross platform approach to storytelling.

“To come away with two awards, beating out much larger stations, in larger markets, is a great achievement,” states managing editor Linnea Edmeier, “and a win for documentary and investigative reporting, with digital being singled out, is even more gratifying. These areas are not typically associated with traditional public radio. I’m proud to see the news team recognized, and that includes our documentary unit, The View From Here, which lives in the news room – another example of how CapRadio is leading the public radio evolution.”

The newsroom has also been honored with Edward R. Murrow and AP awards so far this year.
