Sacramento, Calif. – April 13, 2016:   The Associated Press Television and Radio Association (APTRA) has honored Reporter Bob Moffitt for sports reporting on Capital Public Radio News. His story “California Kids Prepare for Steel Cage Matches,” originally aired in August, 2015.

"When I told people I was doing a story about kids fighting in steel cages, they recoiled in horror. In some parts of the country, matches aren't regulated, and horror is the appropriate reaction," Moffitt says. "But, it turns out a system is in place in California to protect these kids -with weight-class and equipment requirements- much like it is in wrestling, judo, and boxing. So, it's a story about a sweet kid who's really good at mixed-martial arts and is protected from the dangers of unregulated events."

In reflecting on Bob’s work ethic, Capital Public Radio chief content officer Joe Barr said, "Bob Moffitt throws himself into every story with dedication, determination and an all-important sense of fun when needed. It's gratifying to see his reporting gain this recognition.”

Moffitt adds that his current project – a mental health series airing April 12 - 28 is, “a great reflection of the diversity and depth of projects I get the opportunity to do with Capital Public Radio. I really love working with the talented folks in this newsroom.”
