30 Student Journalists Selected for Innovative Social Media Campaign

CONTACT:

Capital Public Radio’s Innovation Lab is pleased to announce that 30 student journalists have been selected to participate in an experimental social media campaign called 100 Young Voters. The campaign seeks to listen to the voices of young Latino voters and find out what issues and candidates will get their votes in the 2016 elections.

Participating student journalists will be guided by faculty from their universities and staff from CapRadio’s Innovation Lab as they research, report and post the stories of 100 young Latino voters. The stories will be published on Instagram using the hashtag #100YoungVoters. Top posts will be featured on Capital Public Radio’s Instagram account in April.

“I’m thrilled that such a large number of students from Sacramento State, Fresno State and the University of Nevada, Reno applied for this project,” says Catherine Stifter, CapRadio’s Senior Editor for Innovation. “It’s been great working with journalism faculty from the three schools along with the director of Millennials in Media to design and promote this experiment. Now, let’s see what we can learn.”

We want to acknowledge and thank project advisors Molly Dugan (Sac State), Faith Sidlow (Fresno State), Vanessa Vancour (UNR) and Robin Epley (Millennials in Media).
