Capital Public Radio Wins Multiple Journalism Awards

Two Honors For Documentary Unit

Sacramento, Calif – April 19 , 2012 : Capital Public Radio News has won four regional Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio and Television Digital News Association and a national award from the Association of Health Care Journalists (AHJC).

The prestigious Murrow Award recognizes o utstanding achievement in electronic journalism demonstrating the spirit of excellence that Edward R. Murrow made a standard for the broadcast news profession. Capital Public Radio won for Hard News Reporting on the closure of adult day health care center s in California; Investigative Reporting for an examination of toxic contamination in Kettleman City, California; News Documentary for the hour - long production Dealing with Diabetes and Sports Reporting for coverage of the Sacramento Kings’ season ending g ame clouded by an arena controversy.

The AHJC Awards for Excellence in Health Care Journalism recognize the best in print, radio and television health reporting from around the country. Capital Public Radio’s documentary Dealing with Diabetes took first place in the Public Health Award , which was open to all media.

“We’re proud of the high level of integrity in our local news coverage. Congratulations to our skilled reporters and producers, it’s a wonderful thing when hard work is recognized and especia lly on a national scale,” says President and General Manager Rick Eytcheson.
