Off Air - 37 - Stitch It Good!

Marmoset

Marmoset

Jorma Whittaker (bass and vocals), Dave Jablonski (guitar and vocals), and Jason Cavan (drums) formed Marmoset in Indianapolis back in 1995, and since then have released six albums. To be honest, I don't think either of us at Off Air have actually taken a listen to their early work, but we really enjoy their latest release Tea Tornado (2009) - a simple, at times mellow (but not TOO mellow) collection that despite its laid back feel, still has a great beat that keeps you engaged through the entire album!

What a Fool Believes . . .

Okay, hopefully this isn't old news, but:

Grizzly Bear - WYWFTO

Apparently, Michael McDonald (yes, that's right Michael "Steely Dan - Doobie Brothers - Ain't No Mountain High Enough" McDonald), can be heard singing in Grizzly Bear's new single "While You Wait for the Others" prompting us at Off Air to heed Stephan Colbert's warning to truly be afraid of bears.

In case you need an amuse-bouche of the talent, the awe-inspiring brilliance that is Michael McDonald, here you go:

What is he saying?!? We have no idea, so to help you while you listen, sing along with the lyrics below!

What a Fool Believes
Michael McDonald/Kenny Loggins

He came from somewhere back in her long ago
The sentimental fool don't see
Tryin' hard to recreate
What had yet to be created once in her life

She musters a smile
For his nostalgic tale
Never coming near what he wanted to say
Only to realize
It never really was

She had a place in his life
He never made her think twice
As he rises to her apology
Anybody else would surely know
He's watching her go

But what a fool believes he sees
No wise man has the power to reason away
What seems to be
Is always better than nothing
And nothing at all keeps sending him...

Somewhere back in her long ago
Where he can still believe there's a place in her life
Someday, somewhere, she will return

She had a place in his life
He never made her think twice
As he rises to her apology
Anybody else would surely know
He's watching her go

But what a fool believes he sees
No wise man has the power to reason away
What seems to be
Is always better than nothing
There's nothing at all
But what a fool believes he sees...

Still curious? Head on over to Stereogum to hear a 35 second sample of Grizzly Bear's "While You Wait for the Others" featuring Michael McDonald.

Want to buy it? Go to Grizzly Bear's Official Website and click the link to purchase the single from iTunes (you can choose between the MP3 singles package or the 7" vinyl).

The New Humans

The New Humans

The four young men from NYC known as the NHMZ were super energetic and a great opening band for Gang Gang Dance, Tuesday night @ Harlow's. Make sure to watch some videos, including a song they say you won't hear ANYwhere else!

GGD - Burning Down the House

Gang Gang Dance

So, we've read that experimental art band Gang Gang Dance has experienced their fair share of tragedy (including a former member who was killed after being struck by lightening and most recently having to cancel the rest of their European tour after an electrical fire destroyed ALL of their equipment).

You can imagine how surprised we were when we caught this on tape from Tuesday night's show . . .

Watch more videos of their performance, hear Meg's interview with GGD, and more all on next week's show!
