Off Air Goes to a Show! - Blue Lamp 2009-08-25

Blue Lamp - 8/25/09

Whew! This was a great show, hammjamm-packed with really unique talent
from San Diego, Sacramento, and the UK!

Luckily we took the Flip camera with us and captured some great videos of the bands.

So, in case you missed it (or want to watch them again) – here’s what we got caught on film!

Christmas Island
This trio came up from San Diego and played a really solid set.
Imagine early Elvis Costello with a liberal amount of surf.

Graffiti Island
Okay before you start asking too many questions – yes, he makes monkey noises.
And YES, there were many island nations represented last night.

These tropical friends are from the UK and we dug ‘em!

Here’s another one without animal sounds . . .

Pens

These gals rocked-out like nobody’s business! All three of them had lots of energy
(two of them really liked hopping up and down) and adorable British accents.

Half way through their set, they scored more points as multi-instrumentalists

The Crocodiles
We’ve featured this San Diego twice now on Off Air [Episode 18 – Dia-BEA-tis].
Therefore we weren’t surprised that they put on a great live show!
We WERE surprised to find their stage show is essentially non-stop
and by how much noise can be made by two unassuming gentlemen.

Oh!  It was dark (seriously - Crocodiles were lit with two simple red floor lamps).
It made for a distinct mood.

“Soft Skull (In My Room)”

The Ganglians
We love this band! Why? Because it’s great to see a local band
(yep, they’re Sacramentins) receive some well deserved critical acclaim.

Pitchfork loves them – we’ve played them on our show
and we were excited to take a few pics and videos of this up and coming band.

Apparently their lead singer was losing his voice – we couldn’t tell.

That pretty much sums up the night! Blue Lamp put on another great showcase
of local and far-from-local bands.  Off Air made a great business contact
(more on that soon) - and now we're just exhausted enough to get
this week's show put together!  ONWARD!!!!!
