Auburn Fire: The Last Home Standing...
The 49 Fire burned every single house on Bill Meyers’ side of his cul-de-sac – except his. Meyers lives at the corner of Morning Mist and Cedar Mist circle, in a subdivision outside Auburn, and he spoke Monday with Capital Public Radio’s Ben Adler.

Auburn Fire: Governor Tours Placer County Neighborhood
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger toured a subdivision just outside Auburn Monday. He saw a Placer County neighborhood devastated by the 49 Fire. The 340-acre blaze has burned down 50 homes and 10 businesses. It's 70 percent contained.

Officials plan to allow all evacuated residents to return to their homes by 7pm Monday. But an evacuation shelter will remain open at the Auburn Recreation District Park gym on Richardson Avenue.

Feds to Offer Low-Interest Loans to Auburn Fire Victims
Starting Thursday, the US Small Business Administration is offering low-interest federal disaster loans to victims of last week’s fire outside Auburn. That’s after the agency declared a federal disaster in Placer County Wednesday.

Placer County is giving owners of properties damaged by this summer’s 49 Fire outside Auburn until late next week to clear up all the debris. Otherwise, the county will take over – and that could cost the property owners.
