Friends of the River / David Batstone / Poetry Out Loud

Friends of the River  In 1979, Friends of the River co-founder Mark Dubois chained himself to the Stanislaus River bedrock, delaying completion of a reservoir. Today on Insight, you’ll find out how his actions halted major dam building in the U.S.

Mark Dubois leads a symposium from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 26th at the Christ Unity Church, 9249 Folsom Blvd., Sacramento. Information: (916) 213-9374.

Professor David Batstone  David Batstone, Professor of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of San Francisco, is the author of several timely books, "Not For Sale" and "Saving the Corporate Soul & (Who Knows?) Maybe Your Own." He has researched and written on the tragedy of human trafficking around the world, as well as on corporate responsibility and ethics.

David Batstone speaks at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24th at the Fire House, 1112 2nd St., Sacramento. Information: (415) 422-2941.
