Hospital expansion  A long-running dispute over a hospital expansion in East Sacramento may come to a conclusion this week. The Sacramento City Council is expected to vote Tuesday on Mercy General's proposed new heart center at its East Sacramento campus. To do this, the hospital says it needs to move a school and some homes, but many residential neighbors are opposed. You'll hear why.

Rare plants  A senior housing project in western El Dorado County is going ahead after an environmental lawsuit against it failed in court. The judge ruled that the developer was doing enough to mitigate the damage to rare local plants found in the area. How valuable are those plants and soil and what kind of mitigation is acceptable?
