Diamonds, Cars, and Ice / Justice Waits

Diamonds, Cars, and Ice   UC Davis economics professor Robert Feenstra has earned many accolades for his unique collection of statistics that track how much nations earn from trading globally in diamonds, cars and ice. "Practically nobody had used these data before I put it together," Professor Feenstra says. "I was able to change the nature of research of international trade economics from being simply theoretical to being based on real numbers."

Feenstra joins host Jeffrey Callison today to talk about what impact his data has on economics theory, and how researches will benefit from his work.

Justice Waits   The true-crime story of the 1980 murders of UC Davis students John Riggins and Sabrina Gonsalves is now a book by veteran journalist Joel Davis. The author's investigation prompted the long-dormant case to be reopened in 2002.

And: Hamid Shirvani  The new president of CSU Stanislaus creates a stir with a recent article claiming lower expectations and political correctness are hurting higher education in the U.S.
