Specifically, the highly-decorated 442 Regimental Combat Team...a unit made up entirely of Asian-American soldiers. The team was dispatched to Italy, France and Germany.
Ken Tokutomi is with the Placer County Japanese American Citizens League:
“As a Japanese-American who grew up in Placer County it’s a way to honor those who sacrificed tremendously. I mean, my generation has been very successful and we’ve piggy-backed on their will to lay down their lives and to be good patriots.”
The memorial includes two large granite boulders with inlaid bronze plaques. Three surviving members of the 442 are scheduled to attend Wednesday’s ceremony.
It’ll be held at the Bill Santucci Justice Center in Roseville at 10 AM.
