UC Davis has received a record $662 million in research funds for the past year, a 6 percent increase from a year ago. Now, more than half the total — about $330 million — came from the federal government, with another $113 million from the state of California. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Agriculture accounted for about 40 percent of the funding.
Chancellor Linda Katehi says the university, which she took over in August, is on a “steep upward curve” when it comes to research funding, but she wants more — with a goal of $900 million to $1 billion per year, or about comparable to UC San Francisco.
