Eric Kurth is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sacramento.

“We have seen some snow, sort of a mixture of rain and snow, even down here in Sacramento. And then in the lower foothills we’re seeing some light accumulation and into the higher foothills and up into the upper mountains there you’re seeing anywhere from a foot to maybe two feet.”

So far, about half-an-inch of rain has fallen in Downtown Sacramento. Kurth says motorists should be careful this morning because of the slick roads…especially on overpasses and bridges where the pavement could be icey. And you’ll want to carry tire chains if you’re heading up to the foothills and sierra. The South Lake Tahoe area could get up to 18-inches of snow today.

The storm has caused some power outages in parts of the foothills…including Auburn, Placerville and Cameron Park.
