Mayor Osby Davis told the newspaper – gays are “committing sin and that sin will keep them out of heaven.” He has since apologized…but some residents are calling for the City Council to either reprimand Davis or remove him from office.

Father Lou Bordisso is organizing a rally Tuesday to protest Davis’ comments. Bordisso says the mayor could extend an olive branch.

“We would be happy with having the mayor proclaim June “Gay Pride Month” in Vallejo and to fly the rainbow flags around our city as a statement that he’s in solidarity with us and that his apology is not simply empty words.”

Davis’ controversial remark was published two-weeks ago in an article about the divide between Vallejo’s gay and evangelical Christian residents.

Davis…who is an evangelical…says his remarks were taken out of context.
