Procrastinating high school students -- and their parents -- beware! The deadline for applying to University of California and California State University campuses is midnight Monday.
CSU Chancellor Charles Reed says applications are streaming in at a record pace: 30 percent higher than last year, with nearly double the transfer applications. And that was before the Thanksgiving weekend leading up to tonight’s deadline.
Reed: “We are expecting another big surge, although we have gotten the word out about – apply early this year. There are those procrastinators out there, but we anticipate that.”
Almost all students apply online now, which is why CSU will have technical support available until 2am.
Reed says budget cuts will force the CSU system to turn away more students than ever before. And unlike previous years when several CSU campuses continued to accept applications beyond the November 30th deadline, this year Reed says most probably won’t.
Meanwhile, UC officials say they don’t have any numbers on applications yet but expect a last-minute flurry as well.
